Job Description:

The Cartwright-Roblin Municipality, with the support of Way To Go Consulting Inc., is seeking an individual that will bring strong leadership skills and resource management to this position as well as ensure quality service.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be self-motivated and capable of working with Council, Supervisor, staff, and the general public in an efficient and courteous manner.
  • Oversee, guide, and assist staff including adherence to professional conduct.
  • Use best practices in operational planning, projection and management while maintaining finances within budgeted amounts.
  • Have knowledge of assessing, improving, and maintaining roads, and other Public Works responsibilities.

This position reports directly to the Chief Administrative Officer. The Public Works Foreman is responsible for excellence in management of roads and other municipal infrastructures and coordination of public works activities throughout the Municipality. Practical knowledge and experience in general computer systems is necessary. Ideally, the candidate will have supervisory experience and possess technical knowledge and experience in municipal public works. The position requires a strong competency with various equipment types as involvement in diverse tasks will be required. A strong background in areas such as road construction, drainage, water and wastewater systems, and surveying would be an asset to candidates. A unique need includes the ability of the position to exchange information requiring explanation and courtesy with the public and senior employees from other organizations. Knowledge of heavy equipment is an asset. An equivalent combination of skills and experience may also be considered.

Cartwright-Roblin is a Municipality of approximately 1,400 in the Pembina Valley Region of Manitoba, close to the North Dakota border. Agriculture and manufacturing are the main industries. The area boasts diverse historical sites and outdoor activities that drive tourism and recreation.
