Manitoba Votes – New Resource

September 22, 2014 – The Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) and the Manitoba School Boards Association (MSBA) have teamed up to offer a “one-stop” election website called Manitoba Votes.

Manitoba Votes offers a current list of council and school board candidates, and will be updated on October 22—Election Day—as the polls come in.

AMM President Doug Dobrowolski explains: “Munici pal elections are important to not only local citizens, but to journalists, former residents and others. That is why the results of these elections should be available far and wide.”

The President of the MSBA agrees. “Public education is everyone’s business,” says Floyd Martens. “It’s important for Manitobans to know who their trustee candidates are, and who will be elected to make decisions on their behalf about the public schools in their communities.”

Both organizations hope to see an enthusiastic voter turnout this election. “Municipal elected officials and school trustees work very closely within the communities they represent,” stresses Dobrowolski. “It is really important that citizens take part in this democratic process.”
