Job Description:

Reporting directly to the CAO, the Senior Election Official (SEO) is responsible for the overall Municipal election process and must be able to interpret and understand all aspects of legislation pertaining to the Municipal election process and provide consistent advice to his/her election officials and to the general public.

 

Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the CAO, the Senior Election Official (SEO) is responsible for the overall Municipal election process and must be able to interpret and understand all aspects of legislation pertaining to the Municipal election process and provide consistent advice to his/her election officials and to the general public.

Key Responsibilities:
Ø Appoint an assistant SEO and other election officials as required;
Ø Provide effective leadership;
Ø Assist with preparation of the required budget;
Ø Establish and maintain the voters list;
Ø Provide the public notice of the nominations;
Ø Provide the public notice of the election;
Ø Establish and equip voting stations;
Ø Print ballots;
Ø Oversee all aspects of the election;
Ø All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Experienced in Microsoft Office products;
  •  Class 5 Driver’s License;
  • Management experience considered an asset;
  • Previous election experience considered an asset;
  • Must be willing and able to take election training sessions.

Knowledge Skills and abilities:

  • Resourceful person with demonstrated success developing and managing budgets in alignment with corporate strategy;
  • Experience working with and interacting with residents and co-workers and the ability to foster and grow relationships;
  • Demonstrate conceptual thinking, comfortable working with ambiguity, exceptional communication skills, naturally and comfortably team orientated and enjoys collaboration;
  • Exceptional interpersonal, analytical, organizational, negotiation and communication skills.

* In the years when a general election is not required the S.E.O. will be responsible to update and maintain the voters list and to conduct a by-election if required.

**Hourly remuneration and mileage expense to be negotiated. Reimbursement will be provided for office supplies and phone calls and meals allowance for election day(s) and training sessions.
