Job Description:

Reporting to the Transportation and Utilities Manager, the key areas of responsibility will include implementing the assignments of the public works department as directed by the Transportation and Utilities Manager.

This position is a unionized position with The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 2034 at an hourly wage of $40.66.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Efficiently coordinate and complete projects and tasks as directed by the Transportation and Utilities Manager.
• Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies.
• Operates trucks and construction equipment, as well as labor required in the maintenance of blading roads, dust control, asphalt patching, hauling materials, crack sealing, ditching, culvert maintenance, sign maintenance and installations, line painting, storm drain maintenance, street sweeping, curb and sidewalk repairs, water break excavations, tree trimming, snow removal and ice control.
• Assists in the operation and maintenance of the utility including the water treatment plant, wastewater lift stations, sewer collection systems, water main infrastructure and the waste water treatment plant.
• Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor and cleans equipment.
• Assists in repairs to trucks and equipment as required.
• Responsible for the administration of the Public Works department during the absence of the Transportation and Utilities Manager.
• Other Duties as assigned by the Chief Administrative Officer.

Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of the hazards and ability to observe safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.
• Working knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in street, sidewalk and utility maintenance work.
• Possession of a valid Class 3A Manitoba Drivers License with Air Brakes endorsement.
• Ability to drive, operate a variety of equipment and perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions
• A suitable combination of education and experience will be considered
