Municipal Leader – Fall 2011

It has definitely been a year of elections and floods…and now the AMM Annual Convention is upon us. This issue of The Municipal Leader includes an overview of all three.

Our provincial election coverage includes a complete recap of our Putting Communities First campaign, the President’s Tour, and the provincial election of October 4. However, the most important point of this 12-page spread might be on the final page, under Next Steps: “In many ways this election was really the starting point for the initiative. Municipal infrastructure needs are not going away. Our communities are struggling and we need help.’

Fortunately, AMM members will have ample opportunity to raise infrastructure issues with Premier Greg Selinger and members of his Cabinet during the 2011 Annual Convention. Municipal infrastructure will also be discussed during a special plenary session – see details for both in our Convention section. You’ll also find a preview of our incredible keynote speakers, our Gala entertainment, and of course the Display Area. It’s an event not to be missed!

Since municipalities continue to deal with the aftermath of this year’s flooding, we provide an update on some of the flood programs now offered. You can also get to know our four new AMM Directors this issue; learn more about the 2012 reassessment; and find out more about an issue that affects all municipalities – SOCAN tariffs. (Not familiar with this? There will be a resolution coming to the Convention floor about it!)
