Spring, 2013
At first glance the topic "injury prevention" may seem far too broad to fit into one special report. However, the Spring, 2013 Municipal Leader looks at injury prevention from a municipal perspective. Recreation opportunities are a fundamental service most citizens demand from their municipal governments today, and with increased recreational facilities come, inevitably, increased risk of injury to our most vulnerable citizens. From playgrounds, to ice rinks, to skateboard parks, to cycling trails risk seems to be everywhere. Our report not only looks at some of the preventative measures local governments can take to reduce injuries in youth, but also seniors and even in our own workplaces.
If that is not diverse enough, the spring issue also includes articles looking at the past by highlighting the availability of the many Manitoba community history books now available online, and into the future by examining the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' new Protege program for young women.
And of course, with spring comes the Municipal Officials Seminar and MTCML Trade Show at the Keystone Centre in Brandon. The issue has all the highlights of this exciting event!
