The Peace River Regional District is the largest geographical regional district in British Columbia, covering a vast 120,000 square kilometers. It encompasses four electoral areas and seven member municipalities, with a total population of approximately 63,000.
Reporting to the General Manager of Development Services, the primary duties of the Planning Services Manager will be to conduct long-range planning for the regional area. This will include research, public involvement, and policy development – culminating in the creation of official community plans, zoning bylaws and other land use management tools, as required. They will act as General Manager in their absence. The Development Services Department includes the functions of long-range planning, current planning, building inspection, and bylaw enforcement.
As a preferred candidate, you will have a university degree in land use planning and at least five years of policy planning experience, preferably in a British Columbia Regional District setting. Excellent interpersonal, writing and presentation skills are essential for communicating with the public, elected officials and other government agencies. Demonstration of superior facilitation, problem solving, and project management skills will be a definite asset. This demanding position will be of interest to individuals interested in management opportunities and in the application of specialized knowledge based on planning principles, practice and techniques. Broad familiarity with standard office computers, business software, and GIS is desirable. A valid BC driver’s license is required as travel around the region will be required.
