AMM Education – Governance Training for Elected Officials

As an elected municipal official, you need to keep up with trends, understand legislative changes, renew your professional and communication skills to better represent your community and to be more effective member of council. Spend some quality time with your counterparts while you broaden your knowledge and improve your skills to effectively achieve the goals of your community.

About the workshop:

Community government leaders are busy people with competing demands on their time.  In addition to being on Council, many also have jobs during the day, own a business, volunteer and have families.  For such elected officials, having a clear idea of their role as a Mayor or as a Councillor is critical so that they can lead effectively and provide broad oversight to ensure the community government is well governed.

The workshop content would cover the following topics:

  • Understanding the role of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) versus the role of the elected official

  • Code of conduct at meetings

  • Avoiding group think

  • Financial stewardship and budgets

  • Strategic thinking

  • Decision making approaches

  • Ethics in government and avoiding conflicts of interest

Facilitated by: Fort Group Chartered Accountants

Seating is limited to 50 persons per workshop. Regretfully, walk-ins cannot be accommodated.
