Mayor, Town of Rossburn
Shirley Kalyniuk, the first female councillor
to sit on the Rossburn town council, was elected in 1983. She has been
Mayor of Rossburn since 1993.
Shirley’s community involvement
includes her roles as Vice-President of the Rossburn Health Centre Auxiliary,
Vice-President of Parkland Tourism, Chair of the Rossburn Planning District,
and President of the Ladies League of the St. Eliah Orthodox Church in
Rossburn.
A strong supporter of economic development, Shirley was the recipient
of an Economic Development Association of Canada “Good News Award”
in 1994 and of a Rural Economic Leadership Award at 1996’s Rural
Forum in Brandon.
Shirley served as the AMM’s Urban Director for the Midwestern District
from November 2001 to November 2006, followed by four terms as Urban Vice-President. She was acclaimed to serve as Midwestern Urban Director in November, 2010.
Shirley has lived in Rossburn since 1975. She and her husband Nick, a retired schoolteacher, have
5 children and 11 grandchildren.
