Marc Garneau was the first Canadian to fly in space and is the former head of the Canadian Space Agency. In 1984, he became the first Canadian to fly on NASA space shuttle mission. Marc has flown five times and logged more than 677 hours in space. Garneau is a role model whose credentials and experience are unmatched. He is an inspiring spokesperson for education, leadership and exploring new frontiers. Marc discussed how seeing Earth from space changed him by awaking a deep environmental consciousness in him. This inspiring
speech outlined what can and must be done to tackle the pressures on the environment, and also gave our delegates a glimpse of what life if really like for an astronaut.
